How many of the following questions about the First School District in the County can you answer? Where was the first school located? Who was the first teacher? How many students were in that first class? When was the third Steilacoom School building constructed? Who was the architect? Where was the first Kindergarten Class in Steilacoom held?
If you’re not certain about the answers, consider ordering a copy of the revised, updated history book, written by Carol Neufeld Stout and Nancy Covert. (See flyer below for details.) Price is $37.
Neufeld Stout, a local historian and retired high school librarian updated the original 2005 history book, containing hundreds of historic photographs and histories about the district’s 7 schools. She and Nancy Covert originally collaborated on the original book, published infor the district’s sesquicentennial.
This comprehensive book traces the history of the district when it was first established in 1854 through 2008 when Pioneer Middle School at Northwest Landing opened for the year. Contents includes details about the district’s PTA association, building the high school, and other useful information about the 156-year-old school district.
