Verbal swordplay, filled with wit and venom, is the rule of the day as royal family battles for the control of the throne in “The Lion in Winter.” King Henry II of England (Joseph Grant) has three sons by Eleanor of Aquitaine (Syra Beth Puett): Richard (Bryan Bender), Geoffrey (Alex Smith), and John (Michael McGrath). He wants the kingdom to stay united after his death, but all three sons want to rule and it is likely to be torn apart by revolution. Henry favors the youngest John, while Eleanor favors the eldest, Richard. Middle son Geoffrey hopes to play both ends against each other and come out on top. Henry would like to have another which the crown lies, and uneasy the truce between a matchless king and queen. Add to this the arrival of Philip (Dylan Twiner), the King of France, who has come for either his sister Alais or the land he was promised, and the Henry finds himself in battle on all sides.
