By Kurt Sample, Coordinator, Lakewood’s Promise
Who’d of thought that the best way to promote your business during the summer months in Lakewood is by painting a little red wagon? The reason is that in Lakewood, we take kids very seriously!
For this reason, we have again been named one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People in the nation and for the second year-in-a row, we encourage businesses to celebrate by “painting” a little red wagon and displaying it all summer long at your place of business for all to admire.
The little red wagon has come to symbolize the Five Promises that are being kept to ensure that in Lakewood , our youth have every chance to succeed in life. These promises are:
1. Caring Adults
2. Safe Places
3. A Healthy Start
4. Effective Education (Marketable Skills)
5. Opportunities to Help Others
Lakewood’s Promise strives to let every child know of these promises and helps coordinate collaborative efforts for those providing needed services to youth.
“Painted” wagons displayed in Lakewood’s businesses is another way to show kids that you care, your employees care, and that we, as a city, are “pulling together” for them!
Please consider painting a wagon in 2011 Your business will receive positive exposure in the following areas:
- the KICKOFF display at SummerFEST
- online newspapers and ‘blogs,
- the Lakewood’s Promise website,
- roundup of wagons and youth gathering at City Hall
