Lakewood United upcoming speaker schedule

April 12, 2011 By Ben Sclair

By Robin Rego, President

The Lakewood United group meets at 7 AM every Thursday at Burs Restaurant, which is located at 6151 Steilacoom Boulevard SW in Lakewood.  The events for the next four weeks are as follows:

  • April 14, 2011 – What’s next for Local “Volunteer Extraordinaire” Herb Schmeling after Earning National United Service Organization (USO) and Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Awards?  – Herb Schmeling, Vice President for NCO and Soldier Programs for the Sixth Region of the Association of the United States Army (Robin Rego – MC)
  • April 21, 2011 – Relay for Life – Mike Darrah, 2011 Event Chair (Kristi Roy – MC)
  • April 28, 2011 – Harrison Preparatory International Baccalaureate College Preparatory School Principal, Lisa Boyd, shares information regarding this school of choice in the Clover Park School District, Past, Present, and Future… (Andrea Litton – MC)
  • May 5, 2011 – Mental Health Awareness Update – Dick Towell, CEO, Greater Lakes Mental Health (Mike Stevenson – MC)

Our Treasurer, Sue Boguszewski, has resigned from our governing Board due to a work schedule conflict.  We appreciate her years of dedicated service to Lakewood United and wish her the very best in her new job.  We thank John Huber, our new Treasurer, for agreeing to serve in that position after being elected by the Board.  We welcome KC Carlson who has been appointed by the Board to fill the unexpired term of Sue Boguszewski.  You may remember KC who recently made a presentation on Construction Projects at the American Lake VA Medical Center.

The dues for our fiscal year, which started on July 1, 2010, are $20 per year which equates to less than 40 cents every Thursday.  This is thanks to our volunteer board.  Incidentally, our guest speakers only charge us the cost of a breakfast.  You can pay your dues by mail to: Lakewood United, P.O. Box 99785, Lakewood, WA 98496 or directly to our Treasurer, John Huber, if he is present at the weekly Thursday morning events”.

There is a minimum charge at Burs Restaurant.  Please ensure that you at least order a beverage if you attend the meeting.

If you wish to make suggestions for future topics or speakers, please contact any of our board members, Ernest Heller, John Huber, KC Carlson, Kris Kauffman, Evelyn Kelly, Andrea Litton, Pamela Maddess, Mary Ann Miller, Kristi Roy, Mike Stevenson or Robin Rego.

For those of you who are only receiving this notice as a handout at the weekly meetings and would like to get it by email, please contact me at rarego@lakeviewlight.com.
