Adventuress to visit Tacoma in April

April 10, 2011 By Ben Sclair

The Adventuress will be in Tacoma April 16 for two public sails (ticket required) as well as free dockside tours at the Foss Waterway Seaport April 19 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The public is invited to experience the magic of sailing on Saturday, April 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Tickets cost $40 for an adult and $20 for youth (ages 0-17).  As always, Sound Experience members sail for free.

“Our sailing season is launched and underway!” said Catherine Collins, executive director of the nonprofit Sound Experience which owns and operates Adventuress as Puget Sound’s environmental tall ship.  “There was an incredible amount of work done in the past couple years, including thousands of hours by dedicated volunteers.  If I didn’t know better, I’d say Adventuress even feels happier.  She’s sailing like a dream.”

Adventuress returns to Tacoma after undergoing significant repair work, including a shiny new stern and transom.   Additionally, over the past two winters, the 1913 schooner’s bow was completely restored with the help of the National Park Service’s Save America’s Treasures grant program and private matching donors.

Last year, Adventuress was voted the “most popular historic site” in Puget Sound in the National Trust for Historic Preservation/American Express Partners in Preservation competition.
