Arts are Education Performance, April 15

Arts Are Education is a FREE open to the public in-school dance arts performance and arts education lecture. This educational outreach performance/assembly features Dance Theatre Northwest (DTN) company members Katie Neumann and Chhay Mam and DTN guests in works created and staged by Melanie Kirk-Stauffer, Artistic Director. The Performance will be held at Grant Elementary (1018 No Prospect, Tacoma WA) on Friday, April 15 at 2 pm.

The program is designed to educate the students and audience members about performing arts through an arts education experience and to help them learn about specific aspects of dance, its history, terminology, disciplines, benefits and the potential careers dance offers. Dance Theatre Northwest’s artists and student performers intend to inspire audience members to develop or further their interest in the arts. Before the performance Grant Elementary dance students will also be able to learn some of the same movements that the dancers perform as they participate in a master class/warm-up with Ms. Kirk-Stauffer and Dance Theatre Northwest performers.

In the past students and staff who have had this opportunity to view a live dance performance and be able to interact with DTN artists have been awestruck. For many, it was their first such experience.

Arts Education budgets have been cut in most of our area schools and this type of quality educational programming is intended to help keep the arts alive in our schools and in the hearts and minds of our youth. DTN estimates that approximately 450-500 audience members will be impacted by this performance.

Dance Theatre Northwest is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization committed to making dance as an important art form accessible to individuals and groups and to assisting future dancers and artists. Dance Theatre Northwest is currently offering Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Stretch, Conditioning & Dance Exercise Classes & Performance Opportunities for Adults, Teens & Children at  2811 BRIDGEPORT WAY WEST #24, UNIVERSITY PLACE/TACOMA, WA 98466
