Arrests made in Wards Lake Park Homicide

April 5, 2011 By Ben Sclair

LAKEWOOD — Lakewood Police Officers responded to the area of 84th Street and Pine Street on March 31st, 2011 for a report of shots fired. The call stated that several shots were heard in the area. The call came in at 10:03 PM and officers arrived in the area at 10:07 PM. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate any problems and cleared the area at 10:16 PM.

Another call was made at 10:30 PM from a group of citizens who stated they had found a body inside Wards Lake Park. Arriving officers located the victim, Elias Lopez Lopez (27 years old), dead inside the park from a gunshot wound.

Homicide detectives were called out and determined that the victim was lured to the park by a female, later identified as BETHANY TESFAYE (19 yers old). TESFAYE lured the victim to the park, so that she could rob the victim with the assistance of her boyfriend. She told us that her boyfriend, later identified as RAMONE DANIELS (18 years old), was hiding in the park with a firearm. She told us DANIELS came out of hiding and began to assault the victim, demanding his money. The victim fought back and tried to run away. DANIELS fired his weapon at the victim and hit him as he was running away. The victim died from the injuries he sustained from the gunshot wound shortly after being shot. TESFAYE told us they took his money and belongings after he was shot and fled the area on foot.

TESFAYE and DANIELS were both booked on Murder and Robbery charges. Both are currently in the Pierce County Jail.

More details on the investigation will be released once they become available.
