Mrs. Barbara Jean Brown, the First Lady of True Vine Community COGIC, passed away on March 23, 2011. She was born in Omaha, NE on June 29, 1936. In recognition of her community involvement for over 43 years, she received numerous awards. Barbara Brown lived an exemplary life and leaves behind her loving husband of 35 years, Pastor Leo C. Brown Jr.,14 children, 29 grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who loved her dearly. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 253-584-0252. Ricardo F. Buenaventura, born in the Philippines on November 27,1927 passed away in his sleep, March 27, 2011. Richard is survived by two brothers, Alfredo Buenaventura and Julio Buenaventura, three sisters, Carmen Manaloto, Salud Villarosa and Lourdes Valeros, nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Elsie Edith (Nelson) Burke, long time resident of Tacoma, passed on March 24, 2011 at age 101. Born in Gwinner, SD, a Lincoln H.S. alumni and member of Bethel Baptist Church was preceded in death by parents Minnie & Franz Nelson; children Betty & Jim; husbands Russell Robbins & Harold Burke; and siblings Roy, Florence, Clair, & Ruby. Survived by children Don, Bob, Dan, & Bonnie; siblings Cliff, Mary, Charlotte, & Joyce AND 120 grandchildren (incl. great). Sabina M.D. Burton, born May 6th, 1940 in Reichenburg, Czech Republic, left her earthly home on March 22, 2011 to join hands with her heavenly father and enter into his kingdom. Beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, her battle ended on March 22, following her struggle with ALS. Sabina is survived by her husband, Richard N. Burton, her daughters Elizabeth Zimmerman and Deborah Cope, son Richard Burton Jr and 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial will be held at Rainier View Christian Church located at 12305 Spanaway Loop Road South at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2011 with reception following. All donations to ALS Assn. Marian Jean Cagle passed away peacefully on March 21, 2011 in University Place, WA. Marian was born August 9, 1922 in Chewelah, WA to Ira and Edna Carter. She was preceded in death by husband Ernest, sister Margaret McEachern, and brother Bill Carter. She is survived by sister Alice Carle, daughter Connie Watkins, son Daniel Cagle (Sharon), 6 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Marian lived her younger years in Spokane, WA, where she graduated from North Central HS. Marian served in the Navy during WWII. She graduated from the University of Washington with a master’s degree in Library Science, and worked as a librarian for the City of Tampa until she retired. Marian had many interests, including travel, gardening, and reading. The family would like to thank the staff at University Place Care Center and Franciscan Hospice for the loving care she received. Dudley Emmett, June 3, 1922 – March 26, 2011. Dudley Emmett, 88, was born in Dooley, VA and raised in Kentucky, later moved to Montana where he met and married Mary Varelia. Together they moved to Tacoma, WA. He served his country as a Navy aviator in World War II. He worked for Titus Ford and retired from Allstate Insurance. Preceded in death by his wife Mary and daughter Darlene Bremerman. Survived by his son Jerry Emmett (Corie), daughter Cathy Essenmacher (Clarence), son-in-law Dennis Bremerman, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bea Herrington, born March 21, 1918, in Morton, WA to Charles and Leona Seydell, passed away March 22, 2011, at her home in Kings Manor, Tacoma. She is preceeded in death by her husband Dean J. Herrington, daughters Linda Newman and Nancy Busier, brothers Donald, Leonard, Mort Seydell and sister Willetta Breland. She is survived by daughter Betty (Herb) Weston, twin brother Ossie (Leona) Seydell, son-in-laws Donald Newman and Arthur Buser, 11 grandchildren and 9 great granchildren, family and friends. Florence Lenora Hockett was born April 12, 1940 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Florence’s journey to meet her savior arrived March 26, 2011. Florence took great pride in family and cherished time spent with them. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist, and enjoyed singing in the voices choir. She worked for Dallas day care and Catholic Community Services as a caregiver during her work history until her stroke in 1997. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, thrift shopping, cooking, and most of all spending time with family. She was an extraordinary mother and provider for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by ex-husband Richard Lee Hockett Sr., sons Trent Hockett, Richard Lee Hockett Jr., Norris Hockett, Wallace Hockett, Carl Hockett, daughter Carla Hockett, and numerous grandchildren. She will be remembered with great love and admiration. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1311 South I St., Tacoma, WA 98405, on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00. Geraldine G. Reed quietly passed away on March 23, 2011 at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Carl W. Reed and her twin brother Gerald Oesterling. Born July 3, 1914 in Norfolk, Nebraska she lived most of her adult life in Tacoma, WA. As a Retail Clerk she worked many years at Sprouse Reitz and other retail outlets. After retirement she enjoyed fishing (a love she shared with her grandsons), attending the Sacramento Jazz Festival and traveling with her sister-in-law and friend Janet Lambertz. Gerry is survived by her daughters Ellen Lowrie and Judy McKasson (Chuck), grandsons Reed Lowrie (Amy), John Lowrie, Charlie McKasson (Becky) and Steve McKasson, and great-grandaughters Hannah & Sidney McKasson. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a caring friend to all who were privileged enough to have known her. She will be greatly missed. The family’s heartfelt appreciation goes to the caregivers of Family First Adult Family Homes for their love and kindness during this difficult time. Dennis M. Rupp, January 18, 1923  – March 26, 2011. Dennis was born in Sterling, Kansas and came to Washington to in 1950. He started a drywall contracting business with his brother and operated in the Tacoma area for 30 years. Dennis spent his retirement time with his family, his home, and his cars. Dennis’ legacy was his family and his testimony of his witness of Jesus Christ. Dennis is Survived by his wife of 69 years, Emma, daughter Loretta, sister Essie, granddaughter Cristen, great granddaughter Jessie, and great grand son James; slso sister-in-law Pat Rupp Blowers and Bernice Rupp Johnson. Memorial service Friday, April 1, at 4pm at Life Center, 1717 S. Union Ave., Tacoma.
