864th Engineer Battalion returns from deployment Tuesday

March 28, 2011 By Ben Sclair

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – About 150 Soldiers from the 557th Engineer Company, 864th Engineer Battalion will be reunited with friends and families at a “welcome home” ceremony currently scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Wilson Gym on JBLM Lewis-North.

Over the past several days, about 500 Soldiers assigned to the 864th Engineer Battalion have redeployed from overseas.  The commander of the 864th Engineer Battalion is expected to return on Tuesday’s flight.

The battalion deployed in March, 2010 for a one-year deployment to Afghanistan under Task Force Pacemaker, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

While deployed, the battalion constructed several new combat outposts and checkpoints, along with upgrading existing or building new infrastructure in Kandahar City and Forward Operating Bases throughout Southern Afghanistan.
