The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound is in the midst of the 2011 BE GREAT for Kids Annual Fund Drive! All proceeds from this two month fund drive will go directly towards programs for Club members at their 9 Clubs and 7 outreach sites located around the South Sound.
Lt. Governor Brad Owen, also the President and Founder of Strategies for Youth, is this year’s Honorary Chairman for the BE GREAT for Kids Annual Fund Drive and knows the importance of a community working together to create great futures for our youth. “The work of the Boys & Girls Clubs prepares young people to have positive and healthy futures. They offer youth activities that build character, encourage healthy lifestyles, and promote academic success, which has an immediate and long lasting impact on kids’ lives. Great futures truly start at the Club.”
Children today are faced with issues that we never imagined including cyber bullying and peer pressure to use drugs or join gangs. Families are struggling in the battle for their children’s futures. The nation’s high school dropout rate is currently at a dismal 31%. During these tough economic times, our Clubs have lowered program fees for middle and high school members to just $5 a month in order to keep this crucial age group engaged. All program fees are based on ability to pay and no child is ever turned away. Doing this requires the generosity of the community. To be part of community is to see something you can change and act on it.
You CAN change a child’s life. Please consider making a gift that is meaningful to you to the BE GREAT for Kids Annual Fund Drive, every dollar matters. Volunteering your time is just as valuable. There are lots of different areas in which you can volunteer and directly impact a child’s life. Sharing of our treasures and time is a powerful way for each of us to experience the thrill of hope and to ensure great futures for our kids and community.
The fund drive is accompanied by an ad campaign that includes billboards, transit, and print. The Boys & Girls Clubs have received great in-kind media support from ClearChannel Outdoor, Titan, the News Tribune, Print NW, and Sam Dollar Design.
The Boys & Girls Clubs are dedicated to helping kids be great. A 2007 survey conducted by Harris Interactive stated that 9 in 10 Club alumni graduate from high school, compared to 85% at the national level and are just as likely as the general U.S. population to earn a college degree. Alumni report that Boys & Girls Clubs have had both an immediate and long-lasting impact on their lives with 57% of alumni saying that the Club saved their life. We hope you will help us keep raising these statistics by supporting the BE GREAT for Kids Annual Fund Drive. Visit BGCSPS.ORG for more information and to donate.
