George E. “Barney” Barnum Went home to be with Jesus on March 14, 2011. He was born on June 19, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of Sumner, Washington until his death. At the age of 18 George was drafted into the US Air Corps as a tail gunner on a B-17. After being shot down in Germany, he became a prisoner of war and marched in the Black Forest Death March for 6 months. After returning home he finished his high school diploma and started working for Fiber Board Paper Products until retirement. His retirement was spent hunting, fishing, and volunteering full-time for the Sumner Food Bank. George didn’t waste a day and was a man known for his heart; there was always a friend in Barney. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Dorothy Barnum, sister Caroline Nix, and wife Irene. He is survived by his son Allen Barnum (Candus), granddaughters Jamie (Jason) Gogocha and Erin Barnum, brother Bob Barnum, and sister Frances Nix. Graveside service Sat., March 19, 2011 at 10:30am Mountain View Memorial Park, and memorial service at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sumner at 1pm.
