How you can make a difference in many children and students lives and learning skills by “Adopting a School” during these serious and difficult economic times when the Federal and State budgets have cut drastically into our Matching School Funds!
- Get involved by calling your school district to learn how many students in your local schools or any one school in particular are on the Free Lunch “Impoverished” Program. This will give you an idea how seriously the students need your help.
- Step up to the plate and share what you can with the school that you will choose to adopt. By doing this you know that 100% of the donation is going directly where you want it to go, not to a “Fundraising Entity” with overhead expenses of 25-50%. You can give many items found at home sitting idly around that are on the list of school needs from their web sites or by calling the school district in your community.
- What the students usually need: School supplies of every single nature, clothing, shoes, backpacks & coats that the parents can’t afford to buy. Donate your kid’s outgrown, but still in great and clean condition, clothes, books etc.
- What the Elementary K-3 schools need: Teaching aids of every nature, flash cards from Numbers-ABC’s-Phonics-Words-Clock Telling Time- Coins & Money-Shapes & Colors; Foam Geometric shape kits; Lettering guide sheets (paper or plastic erasable re-usable); Books & lots of them; Educational board games such as Beginning Letter Sounds Dominoes, Alphabet-Math-Colors & Shapes Bingo, Scrabble, Boggle (check your game room closets and find those games you no longer play and donate them, not only are you cleaning house, but you are helping students).
~We have adopted Cherrydale Elementary School in Steilacoom and have an ink & toner cartridge recycle box located at the Steilacoom Post Office in order to get Staples rewards to get many of these needed school supplies. Some cartridges can be sold to generate cash for clothing etc. Please donate your cartridges at this location if you wish to help this school out! We also collect new and used items listed above that go to this school as well as Salter’s.
If you wish to learn more about how to help your adopted school, then please send us an e-mail with your name and phone number and we will explain to you how to do the best with the least out of pocket expense. Believe us it is a very rewarding feeling to do this for the children of our future, remember they will be all of our caregivers when we are in nursing homes and we want to make sure that they are extremely well educated!!!!! So please pitch in and give a kid a break ok? Your future will be in their hands.
Our SHSD#1 has the best Administrators from the School Board, Superintendent and Teachers who all are trying to achieve the best education for the students with the smallest budget we have, please help them out!!!
