March 15, 2011 By Ben Sclair

By Robin Rego, President

The Lakewood United group meets at 7 AM every Thursday at Burs Restaurant, which is located at 6151 Steilacoom Boulevard SW in Lakewood.  The events for the next four weeks are as follows:

  • March 17, 2011 – New Tacoma Rainiers Stadium Update – Sara Yelenich, Account Executive (Evelyn Kelly – MC)
  • March 24, 2011 – “Numbers at Food Banks Down in Tacoma, Up in Lakewood” – Helen McGovern, Executive Director for the Emergency Food Network – Please bring in peanut butter or baby food/formula (preferred) – a second choice would be canned meat/fish/stew (Andrea Litton – MC)
  • March 31, 2011 – Clover Park Technical College Update and Economic Impact – John Walstrum, President (Mary Ann Miller – MC)
  • April 7, 2011 – An Overview of the Changing World Elections From the “Top 2 Primary” and the Role of Parties in Elections, to the Multimillion Dollar Industry of Election Software and Hardware – Julie Anderson, Pierce County Auditor (Kris Kauffman – MC)

The dues for our fiscal year, which started on July 1, 2010, are $20 per year which equates to less than 40 cents every Thursday.  This is thanks to our volunteer board.  Incidentally, our guest speakers only charge us the cost of a breakfast.  You can pay your dues by mail to: Lakewood United, P.O. Box 99785, Lakewood, WA 98496 or directly to our Treasurer, Sue Boguszewski, if she is present at the weekly Thursday morning events.

There is a minimum charge at Burs Restaurant.  Please ensure that you at least order a beverage if you attend the meeting.

If you wish to make suggestions for future topics or speakers, please contact any of our board members, Sue Boguszewski, Ernest Heller, John Huber, Kris Kauffman, Evelyn Kelly, Andrea Litton, Pamela Maddess, Mary Ann Miller, Kristi Roy, Mike Stevenson or Robin Rego.

For those of you who are only receiving this notice as a handout at the weekly meetings and would like to get it by email, please contact me at rarego@lakeviewlight.com.
