Linda Petersen and Susan Chandler-Morgan were recently recognized by Lakewood Rotary Club as its Teachers of the Month. Petersen is from the Steilacoom Historical School District while Chandler-Morgan was recognized from the Clover Park District. Rotarians and CPSD Representative Kim Prentice described the accomplishments of each in making the representations before the club’s Friday noon meeting.
Peterson was described as an exemplary special education teacher for 18 years. She recently completed a phenomenal quilting project with her students, representing the history and heritage of old Pioneer Middle School and is on permanent display in the new Pioneer Middle School. The honored teacher shared her passion for the students and the history of the district. The quilt project is captured for posterity in a book which Petersen also developed and brought and passed around.
The second honoree, Susan Chandler-Morgan, has been an elementary school teacher in the Clover Park School District since 1995. She has been at Idlewild Elementary for the past six years. Speaking briefly to the members, thanking them for the recognition, in a voice choke with emotion, she explained that she doesn’t do it for the money … she does it for the magic … the magic of seeing the kids progress. Susan is the daughter of the late Ed Chandler, 2006-07 President of Clover Park Rotary Club.
