Obituary Notice

Msgt (Ret) Charles Ernest Burks Jr. “Charlie” Charlie Burks, beloved husband, father and friend, 81, passed away on February 26, 2011 in Lakewood, WA. Charlie was born in Natick, MA on June 30, 1929, the first child of Charles and Gretchen (Young) Burks. His early years included involvement in the Boy Scouts of America, ice hockey, and helping with the family dairy farm. After graduating from Natick High School in 1947, Charlie enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly served his country for 23 years as a squadron first sergeant and aircraft crew chief. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. His military career took him to England, France Germany, Thailand, as well as, numerous bases in the United States. After retiring from the Air Force he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company as an aircraft machinist until his retirement. Charlie enjoyed relaxing with family and friends, supporting Lakewood youth soccer, working on his computer and spending time at the casino. He was also a long time member of the American Legion and United Aerospace Workers of America. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Jean, son and daughter-in-law Mark Burks and Dawn of Arlington, TX, son Scott Burks of Lakewood, grandchildren Andrew, Nicole, Hope, and Hayley, great grandchildren Jack and Tyler, brother and sister-in-law Chet Burks and Lou, sister-in-law Irene Dunn and Jean Webster and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. He was preceded in life by his parents Charles and Gretchen (Young) Burks. A memorial service will be held at the Mountain View Celebration of Life Center, Aspen Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, 98499, Saturday March 5, 2011 at 10:00AM. The family encourages donations to the American Heart Association . Special thanks to the staff of the University Place Care Center and St. Clare’s Hospital-Lakewood.
