The phlight of the Purple Pigs

March 1, 2011 By Ben Sclair

Jewel the Pig with Ed Judie

Relay For Life of Lakewood is painting the town with purple pigs, in hopes of creating interest and awareness in the Fight Back against cancer.

Individual teams have created their own pigs and are placing them in various locations around town. Shown above is Jewel, held by Clover Park School District, Ed Judie, Director of Student Services. While Jewel was in the care of Mr. Judie, she raised over $150 in donations from the Rotary and from fellow employees of CPSD. Way to Go, Ed, and Thank You!!

Jewel’s pen pal, Gemmi, was taken care of for a week by Lakes High School Athletic Director, Joe Keller, and she brought home the bacon, $60. Thanks Joe.

Other pig-pen pals, like Pinkie, have visited several places such as Clarkmoor Elementary and Buckley’s Old Sow’s Cellar and Slop House and so far has raised $391. WOW! She sure is hogging the spot-light so far.

And we can’t overlook TAB (Take a Break), complete with sunglasses, who is on her way to Peoria, AZ and spring training with the Seattle Mariners. Can’t you just see her out in the bull-pen with all those pitchers.

If you want to join in the fight against cancer, just call Mike at 307-2962 or Jim at 861-2865 and we will see to it that you have one of our beautifully decorated porkers for a week. Let’s see who can raise the most money as we zero in on cancer and hopefully put and end to this dreaded disease.
