30 years of Tacoma Concert Band

February 8, 2011 By Ben Sclair

On Saturday evening, February 26th, 7:30 p.m., the Tacoma Concert Band, conducted by Robert Musser, will celebrate 30 years as the Northwest’s premier community band with its “30th Anniversary Spectacular” at Tacoma’s Pantages Theater. Since 1981, the TCB has served Puget Sound musicians and audiences with award-winning programs and memorable performances. In recognition of this milestone, Governor Christine Gregoire has declared February 26th to be “Tacoma Concert Band Day” in Washington State.

The TCB’s anniversary concert will include favorite selections from past years’ programs, including two of the several original works that the TCB has commissioned and premiered. The featured soloist will be trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti, whose previous appearance with the band was one of the TCB’s most memorable concerts. Mr. Vizzutti is a world-renowned jazz and classical artist who has appeared in venues from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl, with such jazz greats as Woody Herman, “Doc” Severinsen and Chick Corea, and classical ensembles such as the Royal Philharmonic and the Tokyo Symphony. He has performed in over 40 countries and in every state of the union.

Tickets start at $15 ($10 for students, seniors, and military personnel) and can be purchased from the Broadway Center box office, 253-591-5894 or 1-800-291-7593. Everyone age 16 and under will be admitted FREE! For more information, please visit www.tacomaconcertband.org.

Congratulations Robert Musser. I met you in the 1900s. You are to be admired for your ability to lead the Tacoma Concert Band into its 30th year.
