The engineering and construction community can find the updated Manual on Design Guidelines and Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction in Pierce County on the Pierce County website, beginning February 1, 2011.
“This is a culmination of more than four years of effort on the part of Public Works and Utilities, Planning and Land Services, and development community stakeholders,” said Brian D. Stacy, P.E., county engineer. “The new manual streamlines technical information so it is easily understood and incorporates the best practices in design and construction.”
The manual, published by the Office of the County Engineer, provides consistency for engineering and construction practices throughout unincorporated areas of Pierce County. The manual ensures compliance with Washington State law and current technical requirements.
The manual was last updated in 1998. During the recent update process, stakeholders from the development community added a “reality check” to ensure all areas of need were addressed.
Pierce County will be providing industry training later this year. The manual is available at www.piercecountywa.org/roadstandards.
