Steilacoom Town Administrator update to mayor, council

Administration – Upcoming Meetings:

  • Council Meeting – February 1, 2011 at Town Hall.
  • Parks Task Force – February 24, 2011 at 6:30 PM at Town Hall in the Map Room.
  • Planning Commission – February 7, 2011 at 6:30 PM at Town Hall

Council Future Agenda “Look-Ahead” Issues:

Copies of the Agenda and staff reports are available at all Town facilities once published. The Agenda and Council meeting minutes are posted to the Town’s official website.

Future Topics – Policy Related:

1. Nuisance and Abatement procedures (Winter-Spring).
2. Grown “Fences” (Winter-Spring).
3. Shoreline Management (Winter-Spring)
4. Storm Water Comprehensive Plan (Winter-Spring)
5. Public Nuisance Procedures (Spring)

Future Topics – Administrative:

1. 2011 Public Safety Workplan (February 15 Study Session)

Parks Task Force Community Project:

On March 5, 2011, the Parks Task Force is sponsoring a Community Planting Project at the 5th Street Waterway located near Wallace Street. The event runs from 9 AM to noon. All are invited.

Refuse Collection Proposed Rate Increase:

Pierce County Refuse (Harold LeMay Enterprises Inc.) has filed a request with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) to raise the rates for refuse collection and landfill disposal. The new rates will be effective on March 1st, 2011 upon approval by the WUTC.

Public Works:

Street and Storm Water Utility Crew:

The Street and Storm Water Crew:

-Completed road shoulder repairs (gravel) along Chambers Creek Rd., 3rd & Gove, Walnut Ave. and 2nd St.

-Cut overhanging trees and branches along right-ways in various locations

Electric Crew:

The Electric Crew:

-Completed a permanent service on Tyo Lane

-Pulled wire at 1200 Union Avenue, completing the replacement of the bad wire that lead to an outage in the Fall of last year.

-Completed substation monthly checks

-Assisted water/sewer crew with the reinstallation of pump at Sunnyside Pump Station

along with assisting in resolving telemetry challenges with the Dock Street lift station.

Water and Sewer Crew:

The Water/Sewer Crew:

-Repaired a water service on 1st St.

-Completed sewer flow report per new requirements for new County contract with Town.

-Flushed select sewer lines in Town.

-Calibrated the electronic oxygen deficiency warning device (sniffer) for the safety of the crew.

-Reinstalled repaired pump at Sunnyside Pump Station

Buildings and Grounds:

The Buildings and Grounds Crew:

-Worked at Public Safety with the Cedar Creek work crew to finish beauty bark and weeding of the facilty.

-Painted over graffiti at the Train Depot.

-Coordinated with Honor Society to plant 300 daffodil bulbs at Perkins Park

-Installed heather in gaps along Lafayette St.

-Repaired drain line (roof drain) at Public Safety

Facilities

-Staff completed a second walkthrough on the facilities as part of the DOC grant and the engineers installed data loggers on HVAC equipment to gather electric usage and efficiency rates for use in replacement recommendations.
