Update on Lakewood Homicide Investigation

January 19, 2011 By Ben Sclair

By. Lt. Chris Lawler, Lakewood Police Department

Detectives and Investigators continue to actively work leads on the homicide investigation involving victim, Lenard Masten. Masten was shot and killed outside an apartment complex on January 16th at the 5500 block of Chicago Avenue SW in Lakewood. Two black male suspects dressed in dark clothing were seen fleeing the scene in a mid 90’s dark colored Chevy Tahoe or Suburban. It appears that gang members are involved in the incident, but we cannot discuss any affiliations or motive at this time. Investigators arrested a female on January 17th for evidence tampering and obstructing the investigation. Investigators believe the female removed a key piece of evidence from the scene and lied to detectives. A “person of interest” has been identified, but we cannot release any details about this person at this time. We hope to partner with Crimestoppers in the next couple of days to release a flyer asking for additional information. Tips or information can be called in to 253-830-5042 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 253-591-5959.
