Fort Steilacoom Park and Golf Course Planning and Feasibility Study Review

January 11, 2011 By Ben Sclair

By Mary Dodsworth, Director

Council authorized resources from the Lodging Tax program to fund the Fort Steilacoom Park and Golf Course Planning and Feasibility Study. The purpose of the study was to review ideas and options to improve the economic value and recreational uses the park and golf course could offer our local community and regional visitors. The study summarizes conclusions and includes concept plans and recommendations that may fit at the golf course and park sites.

The study is divided into two parts. The first part provides information regarding new and improved uses at Fort Steilacoom Park. The second part provides information to help Council decide if it is financially feasible for the City to assume management of the Fort Steilacoom Golf Course.

On January 18, 2011, the Park and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) will host a Tri-Board meeting to discuss the recently completed Fort Steilacoom Park and Fort Steilacoom Golf Course planning and feasibility study. Members of the Landmarks and Heritage and Planning Advisory Boards will be invited to attend. A copy of this study will be provided to the Board members this week. An electronic version is available on the City’s website for the community to review. You can download it from the City’s website. Look under Latest News on the home page.

The focus of the meeting on January 18 will be PART ONE of the study – Fort Steilacoom Park. (The golf course portion will be reviewed at the PRAB meeting on February 22) The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. City Council meets at 7:00 p.m. so our time is a bit limited, but we will allow public comment.
