STEILACOOM — At its July 15 meeting, the Board of Directors of Steilacoom Historical School District #1 unanimously voted to enter into a purchase agreement in which the district will purchase the top portion of the former Abitibi mill site known as the Abitibi/Ralston Property. Since that point in time, the district has conducted due diligence with regards to whether the property would be suitable for district use.
“While additional space for programs may not be an immediate concern, we must have the vision to meet future requirements. What we, as a community, can do now is help ensure that real property is available in the right locations to meet future facility requirements,” said Mike Winkler, Board of Directors’ chair.
The district made the purchase so that additional land is available adjacent to the Steilacoom High School campus. Land at the bottom of the hill formerly occupied by mill buildings located on Chambers Creek Road was not a part of the sale agreement.
“We want to be ready and have land available for expansion of our high school should the need arise,” said Superintendent Bill Fritz. Purchase price for the 13.5 acre property is $1.85 million. . The transaction closed on December 17, 2010.Print This Post
