2011 Homeless Survey in Pierce County

January 5, 2011 By Ben Sclair

Volunteers will conduct surveys throughout Pierce County, at hot meal sites, day shelters, health clinic, on the streets and at ‘giveaway’ locations on January 27th and/or January 28th. Volunteer safety training is mandatory and will take place on Thursday, January 20 or Monday, January 24 (additional training dates will be scheduled in the Gig Harbor and Puyallup areas) at 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm, Soundview Bldg, 3602 Pacific Ave, Conf Rm A, Tacoma 98418.

Sign up for location and assignments will take place at the safety meetings. Please call or email to volunteer or if you have questions. I can be reached at rgiron@co.pierce.wa.us or 253.798.6931.

Thank you for volunteering in the last few point in time homeless surveys. Last year volunteers like you helped survey over 1,807 homeless individuals in our county. 554 single unattached individuals and 333 families with 677 children age 18 and under were identified as homeless during a 24 hour census period. Click here for full report.. Collecting good data on the numbers, needs, and characteristics of individuals that are identified as being homeless is critical to meaningful planning and program development.
