Free events at Pierce County Library System on second Saturdays

People will, learn, create and connect during free events at eight libraries in Pierce County Library System on the second Saturday of the month.

DuPont Pierce County Library, 1540 Wilmington Drive
Book Buddies. Practice your reading with a volunteer book buddy. Ages 5 – 11. Second Saturday of each month, 10 a.m.
Ashley’s Avian Antics. Connect and interact with small birds at a fun and educational bird experience. Jan. 8, 3 p.m.
Stars, Constellations and Planispheres. Make a planisphere star chart and study constellations with Tacoma Astronomical Society. Ages 5 and up. Feb. 12, 1 p.m.
Fetch! Club with Ruff Ruffman. Teams solve fun science and engineering challenges from the popular PBS series. Grades 3 – 5. March 12, 11 a.m.
Mountain Fever. Hear old-fashioned storytelling at its best with Jim Ross. April 9, 1 p.m.
Open House. Celebrate DuPont Library’s 7th anniversary with crafts and refreshments. May 14, 1 – 3 p.m.
Beginning Photography for Kids. Bring your own camera and learn from photographer Greg Farley. Ages 7 – 13. June 11, 10:30 a.m.

Genealogy 101. Get started on your family tree with genealogy expert Audrey Roley. Jan. 8, 1 p.m.
Duct Tape Crafts. Put together a craft or two with that ever-popular, multi-purpose, fix-it tape. Feb.12, 1 p.m.
Go Fly a Kite. Make and fly kites with kite enthusiast Jerald Graham. March 12, 1 p.m.
Saturday Matinee. Watch a family-friendly film. April 9, 1 p.m.

Digital Photography. Practice basics and get digital camera tips with photographer Greg Farley. June 11, 1 p.m.

Handwriting Analysis. Discover what handwriting reveals and have your writing analyzed with graphonanalyst Gloria Peach. Jan. 8, 1 p.m.
Accordion Scrapbooking. Build your own album with this paper craft alongside artist Heather Lee. Feb. 12, 11 a.m.
Getting Your Garden Ready. Prepare your soil for springtime planting. March 12, 11 a.m.

Mug Rugs. Crochet something fun and useful. Ages 13 and up. April 9, 2 p.m.
Food and Nutrition. Learn about basic nutrition, cooking, budgeting and food safety with WSU Cooperative Extension. May 14, 2 p.m.
