For the third consecutive year, Pierce County received the award for Best County Paving Project in Western Washington. The Washington Asphalt Paving Association presented the award to Public Works and Utilities for the 2009 asphalt overlay program. The county’s paving contractor, Woodworth and Company, Inc. of Tacoma, was a joint recipient of the award.
“Our contractors and inspectors consistently work to ensure quality, as evidenced by this three-year winning streak,” said Brian Ziegler, Public Works and Utilities director. “Pierce County drivers are the real winners though, enjoying smoother and longer lasting pavements.”
The asphalt overlay program resurfaced 6.5 miles of county roadways in 2009. Woodworth and Company, Inc. applied approximately 26,000 tons of hot mix asphalt on the project, which was independently reviewed by WAPA and determined to meet their standards for high quality asphalt pavement construction.
