“$1.08 per person.” Definitely a bargain! That was the cost for the recent snowstorm in Steilacoom in late November, according to Mark Burlingame, Public Works Director for the Town.
Not only did the town’s PW crewmembers tend to spreading sand, (100 tons), spraying brine (4,000 gallons) and two tons of de-icer crystal, but also they kept the cost to $6,800 for materials and labor.
That total averages out to $1.08 per person, Burlingame said. (According to an article in the News Tribune on Dec. 7, Tacoma spent about $1.75 per person during the week).
Burlingame said, “about 15 trees fell during the storm.”
He commended the public works crew men for “all their efforts”, adding that they also made time in their schedule to decorate the town tree and prepare Santa’s sleigh for its annual December visit
