By Marcus Walker, Managing Artistic Director, Lakewood Playhouse
Friends, Family & Neighbors: Due to an army of staff and volunteers assembled from nearly every theatre in the county; Thanks to Roasters, technicians, church members and ticket purchasers numbering nearly three hundred and fifty, we were shown extraordinary faith, support and kindness by our community friends and neighbors.
During the two hours of the “Benefit Roast for Marcus Walker,” Lakewood Playhouse took in nearly $12,000 in donations to our Friends’ Fund, an account which serves the theatre in everything from emergency purchases, education supplies, and staff salaries to script rights. This reserve fund is the very same which will be used to help us in these current challenging times, as we continue to reorganize during my illness. It is with a grateful heart that the Lakewood Playhouse accepts receipt of your generous donations.
We have passed these first ten years of my Managing Artistic Directorship together, and I have done my utmost to deliver you the best of what we have to offer this community. In the act of true friendship, the community likewise has continued to support and befriend us, never more I should think, than on November 29th when so many joined forces, hands and hearts together for an evening event which I will treasure for years to come.
Thank you for your endless kindness,’ contributions and support of the Lakewood Playhouse, it’s staff, technicians and artists alike. We are sincerely grateful for the spirit of laughter, hope and faith you bring with you, and which you have continued to share with us over the years.
