Lakewood Police Memorial set for Monday morning

November 26, 2010 By Ben Sclair

By Lieutenant Chris Lawler, Lakewood Police Dept.

The Lakewood Police Department will be holding a memorial event to dedicate the newly constructed Fallen Officer’s Memorial that is located along Lakewood Drive at the Police Station (9401 Lakewood Drive Southwest) on Monday, November 29th at 10:00 AM. The public is being asked to park behind the Target Store at the Lakewood Towne Center (5618 Lakewood Towne Center Boulevard) and catch a free ride on a Pierce Transit Bus to our station.  Free bus service will be running every 15 minutes from the Towne Center to our station beginning at 8:00 AM and ending at noon.  There will be no public parking at our station or in the Industrial Park.

Visiting Law Enforcement will be able to park in a designated area just to the east of our station and can be accessed by entering the Industrial Park from the 47th Avenue entrance off 100th Street or the 95th Street entrance off Lakeview Avenue and heading towards our station.  Personnel will be on hand to direct incoming vehicles towards the parking areas.

Lakewood Drive will be reduced down to one lane in each direction from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM on the morning of the 29th.  The road will be restricted from just south of the Clover Park Bus Headquarters to just north of the entrance to the YMCA.  At 9:00 AM, Lakewood Drive will be completely closed down from those areas until noon for the event.  The public will still be able to access businesses on Lakewood Drive that are located north of the closure and south of the closure by the YMCA.  Public parking is not being offered at the YMCA.

The first annual Fallen Officers Food Drive will also be held on the 29th and the public is encouraged to bring donations to support the Emergency Food Network (efoodnet.org).  Food items can be dropped off in person at the Lakewood Police Station and a drive up donation station will also be set up.  For those who want to utilize the drive up donation site, please access the industrial park using the following route.  Look for the food drive signs at the 47th Avenue Southwest entrance to the Industrial Park off 100th Street Southwest.  Go northbound on 47th Avenue until you get to 95th Street Southwest.  Go westbound on 95th Street Southwest until you get to the drop off station.  Volunteers will be there to take your donations from your vehicle and will route you back the way you came in.

The food drive poster and memorial event program can be viewed at the links below.

Questions regarding the memorial dedication event can be directed to Lieutenant Chris Lawler at 253-830-5011.  Follow Lakewood PD on Twitter for updates or the Police Department web site at police.cityoflakewood.us/
