A special 90th birthday celebration for Patricia Ann Selden was held with family at Jake’s in Steilacoom on Nov. 3rd. Pat was born Nov. 3, 1920 in Machias, WA to Robert and Leefa Byron. She was the youngest of three children. She and her husband, late Lt. Col Donald E Swanson, moved to Steilacoom in 1951 and she has resided in the family home ever since. Together they raised four children, Bob-Ann, Sallie, Randi and Danny Swanson (deceased August 14, 1971). In 1967 she married Edward T. Selden and together they blended the Swanson and Selden families. She and Ed enjoyed working at Ed Selden Floor Covering in Lakewood, and entertaining at their home in Steilacoom and the family cabin in Packwood, Washington.
At her party were all six of their children, Bob-Ann Cribb, Sallie (Bob) Kessey, Randi (Terry) Slatten, Pam (Kurt) Mayer, Marsha (Lloyd) Williams, and Rick (Sharon) Selden along with six grandchildren Jaimie (Eric) Garrett, Sara and Sami Slatten, Natalie Mayer, Joe (Gloria) Mayer, Gayle Selden, and six great-grandchildren Zack and Shane Garrett, Taryn Bye, Elliott Mayer-Yeager, Ethan and Jonathan Mayer. Missing were five grandchildren and spouses, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
When asked what she wanted for her birthday she replied “to start planning my 100th birthday celebration at the Space Needle” Happy Birthday Pat and here’s to Nov. 3, 2020.
