With the traffic island at the north end of Gravelly Lake Drive and Nyanza 99% complete, we hope the Lakewood community and visitors are enjoying this freshly landscaped area that will grow and add to the beauty of our City. As Keep Lakewood Beautiful (KLB) plans for the next year, watch for some of the existing project areas to be enhanced as unhealthy plant material is replaced and the areas are fine tuned with specialty maintenance work.
New at KLB is a recognition program specially designed to recognize those businesses in our community that take special care and pride in the landscaped appearance of their facilities. We most recently recognized Rodney Tayet, owner of the building at 88th and Steilacoom Boulevard that houses the Forza Coffee shop, for landscape beautification that not only enhances the area but creates a space that is warm and welcoming. If you would like to recognize a Lakewood business, please submit your nominations to Nancy Cook at 253-588-9903. The KLB board awards certificates on a quarterly basis and welcomes community input.
Many thanks to those Lakewood community members who pick up litter keeping our neighborhoods clean and vibrant. As you walk to the mailbox, or grab your morning paper, please take a moment to remove any litter that has accumulated in the right-of-way area of your home. With this small effort we are all working to keep Lakewood beautiful.
Keep Lakewood Beautiful, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing our community through projects created to improve city right-of-way and public spaces, meets monthly and encourages citizen involvement from board membership to digging in the dirt.
