Pierce County hunger relief agency Emergency Food Network will host this year’s Empty Bowls fundraising event at the Life Center Campus in Tacoma, WA in an effort to raise funds and awareness about the 67 food banks, hot meal sites, and shelters in Pierce County that feed 140,000 individuals in Pierce County each month.
Pierce County Empty Bowls is an annual event in which bowls made my local artists are sold to attendees. Once a purchase is made, attendees have soup donated by local chefs and restaurants. Masa, Infinite Soups, The Swiss, Adriatic Grill, and the Harmon/Hub are all participating this year. 100% of all proceeds from the bowl sales benefit Emergency Food Network. In 2010, EFN will distribute more than 13 million pounds of food valued at more than $18 million. For every $1 donated, EFN distributes $12 worth of food.
The event is free. “Attendees will shop for bowls created by local artisans that are priced starting at $15,” say Emergency Food Network Development Director, Jeff Klein. “The bowls make great holiday gifts and folks really like telling the recipient that the proceeds went to feed hungry people in Pierce County. And after shopping, you get to have some soup. What more could you ask for?”
The Emergency Food Network has been working since 1982 to provide food and other essentials at no cost to over 67 food banks, hot meal sites and shelters for distribution to low-income families and individuals in Pierce County.
