Howard Wendell

Wendell Wayne Howard Born June 12, 1926 in Wichita, KS; passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, October 13, 2010 in Tacoma, WA. He is survived by his wife Wilma, who lives in the family home of 50 years with their son Rick. He is also survived by their daughter Karen, and their son Gary. He has two grandchildren, Joey and Katie. Wendell served aboard the USS Talladega during WWII. Viewing will be held Tuesday, October 19th at Mountain View Funeral Home. Sandra Elizabeth Jurich Passed away Saturday, October 9 in Federal Way at the age of 64. Sandra was born in St. Paul, MN to Robert and Patricia Lemon. Sandra graduated from Clover Park High School in Lakewood, and attended the University of Washington in Seattle, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. She loved to go camping and working on her lawn and garden, and especially loved her dogs, cats, and a bird. Sandra worked for the Muckleshoot Tribe and also for H&R Block. Sandra was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Victor Lemon and Loren Edward Lemon, and by father Robert Charles Lemon. Survivors include daughter Pamela, grandsons Stephen, Christopher, and Anthony, mother Patricia, brothers Stephen and Jeffrey, and many, many friends. A private service will be held at Tacoma Mountain View Memorial park on October 18, 2010. . Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home 253-584-0252. Nakatsu Poocha

Poocha Yong Nakatsu, born January 25, 1943, passed away at home October 13, 2010. She was married to her loving and devoted husband Sidney Nakatsu for over 40 years. Poocha is survived by her two daughters, Marie Nakatsu and Cathy Ross, grandsons Max, Eric, Chace and Beck, her sisters Okcha and Kukcha, her brother Yong Hyun Ge, and numerous nieces and nephews. The viewing will be at Mountain View on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, from 10am- 8pm. A memorial service will be held in the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 1pm. Reynolds Billy

Billy Dwight Reynolds 4-30-1940 to 9-19-2010 Born in Eugene OR, served 21 years in the US Army from 1959 – 1980. During this time, served three tours in Vietnam and had the honor of being part of the White House Color Guard. After retiring from the Army, he worked at Bremerton Naval Ship Yard and McChord AFB, finally retiring after 28 years of civil service work. He is survived by his spouse of 32 years Monika, son Andrew (Kirsten) and daughter Simone Tagles (Michael). He was surrounded by family when he passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Our time with him was too short, and he will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life with full military honors will be held on October 23, 2010 at Mountain View in Lakewood at 11:30am. Solatka Archie

Archie Martin Solatka, born November 11, 1921, passed into the hands of the Lord on October 9, 2010. Archie was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Julia and was the 2nd oldest. He married Phyllis LeDuc in 1945 in Glenwood, Illinois. He was preceded in death by Phyllis in 1973. He is survived by sons Michael (Diane) and grandson Eric, Stephen (Deborah), and Thomas (Kris). He enjoyed cards, bowling, fishing, and hunting excursions. Archie served as a crew member on a B24 Liberator during WWII. After the war he was stationed in Japan, England, Italy, Iceland, and Alaska. The family settled in Lakewood in 1962 as Archie retired from active duty as a Master Sergeant. He moved to Patriot’s Landing in 2005 and enjoyed the residents, staff, cribbage and bridge! There will be a memorial celebration at Patriot’s Landing in DuPont on Monday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home 253-584-0252. Staggs Nancy tnt

Nancy Jean Webster Staggs Passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma on October 13th. Nancy was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, but raised in Tacoma. She was the elder daughter of Jim and Lena Webster. Nancy graduated from Lincoln High School, where she played clarinet in the marching band, in 1954. She earned a degree in Music Education from WSU in 1958. She marched in their band as well. Nancy dedicated her teaching career to choral music, becoming best known for her work at Hunt Middle School in Tacoma. Nancy leaves behind her loving husband of 13 years, Lee Staggs, and his family. She is survived by her sister Sally Evenson (Wayne), nephew Jeffrey Evenson (Karyn), niece Jami Buselmeier (Chris), grand-nephew John Webster “Jack” Evenson, grand-nieces Rachael Buselmeier and Sarah Evenson, as well as many dear friends. A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in the Garden Chapel at 11am on October 23rd, 2010. Malone Melvin

Melvin D Malone The last Pearl Harbor Survivor in Tacoma, WA passed away at the age of 88 on October 9-2010. He was born January 26, 1922, born & raised in Tacoma; Mel graduated from Lincoln High School and enlisted in the Navy at 17. Mel was on the USS California when it was hit in the Pearl Harbor Attack then went on to serve in several of the major battle campaigns including Battle of the Coral Sea, Midway and Guadalcanal. After the Navy he became a lineman electrician for Tacoma Public Utilities where he invented the procedure for administering pole top CPR rescue for lineman and has been used nationwide. Mel retired at TPU as a Safety & Training Officer. Mel was a Saddlebronc rider, Baseball player, camper, clam digger, fisherman, hunter but most of all a golfer – 4 hole-in ones in his lifetime! He is survived by his children, Krista & Patrick Malone and his grandchildren, Casey, Ella & Mason. There will be a graveside service at Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499 Wednesday, October 20th at 2:30. A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW, 4741 N. Debra “Dee” Mills was born on December 26th, 1949 in Flasher, ND and traveled on to a better world on October 10, 2010. Dee is survived by her husband Greg, her son Connor, sisters Kathy, Eva and Hank and numerous extended family members and friends. Memorial service is to be held at 2PM Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Valley Chapel, Mt View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA. .
