Tacoma Power receives national recognition

October 14, 2010 By Ben Sclair

Tacoma Power‘s commercial customers agree on at least one thing: The utility provides excellent customer service, value and account management.

A recent survey by E Source, a national energy industry research firm, measured Tacoma Power’s customer satisfaction against 17 other utilities in the country. Tacoma Power tied for second with Portland General Electric and Florida Power and Light. Silicon Valley Power took the top honors.

The utility scored 8.7 out of 10 in overall satisfaction; the industry average is 8.1. When it comes to value, Tacoma Power scored 8.6; the industry average is 7.8. The top attributes recognized by customers include reliability, communication during emergencies, trustworthiness and effort to keep energy prices low.

“Tacoma Power is very good to work with. The biggest room for improvement lies with my company being prepared to take better advantage of the services they offer,” said one survey respondent.

The utility’s four account executives scored high marks for the customer service they provide. Customers said they are trustworthy, follow through on commitments, communicate during emergencies and are reachable.

One customer’s response said the account executive who serves the company “is very personable, cares about her accounts and works with me as far as scheduled maintenance Tacoma Power is scheduling. Hard to improve upon this!”

The Public Utility Board will recognize the account executives and Tacoma Power at its meeting tonight, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Tacoma Public Utilities Auditorium, 3628 S 35th St.
