JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – For the next three months, Joint Base Lewis-McChord will clear unexploded ordnance (UXO) from the base’s artillery impact area. The clearing mission will include the detonation of the UXO, which is scheduled to occur on Friday’s between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. This may result in several loud explosions throughout the day, which are likely to be heard off base.
The artillery impact area is located south of the JBLM Lewis-Main cantonment area. UXO clearing is performed periodically, for safety purposes. Queries or comments about noise may be directed to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Public Affairs Office’s External Communication Division
