Letter: ‘Do not vote for incumbents’

October 13, 2010 By Ben Sclair

By David Shaw, Lakewood resident

Tired of the empty promises of those who lead our governments at different levels? Tired of the career politicians, the people who have not held down a real job like the majority of the workers in this country; some for a decade or more? Tired of funding with your hard-earned tax dollars the very generous benefits they have given themselves which continue even after they have left office?

Each party says they don’t like adding new taxes, yet they continue to pass them or raise the ones already in place. Each party says they don’t like deficit spending, yet deficit spending continues.

If there is a new tax, or a rise in existing ones, it’s because they want it. If there is deficit spending, it’s because they agree to it. If there is a continuation of this madness, it’s because WE allow it.

My proposal is a simple one. Simply do not vote for any incumbents until we get the kind of leaders who truly understand that they work for us, their constituents. We can also begin to look into revoking those life-long benefit packages they currently enjoy. Let them pay into Social Security like the rest of us. Maybe they’ll think twice about frittering away the money the rest of us have paid into the system.

If you like the situation as it is presently, re-elect the incumbents thereby guaranteeing perpetuation of the status quo. But if you truly want change, you might consider what has been proposed here.

Why does this ring so true. Who does Congress think they are working for? It is time to show them who. My moderate thinking is not aligned to any party, just to the party person who says he will follow my wishes.
No incumbents in 2011. Sounds good to me.

Mr Shaw, I definitely agree with you. This Government of ours has put us in debt by their tax and spend ways and the news media actually supporting and brainwashing voters in lies and deceiving messages. I am sick of it. Its time the silent majority, the tea party, the “true” conservatives stand up and vote Patty Murray,Adam Smith, and others out of office. How come they don’t run on their platform of Health Care, and the $800 stimulus package? Both bills were shoved down our throat and not one senator read neither bill. The American people better wake up or God help us.

    Thank you Mr. Shaw.

I agree. Our government is completely out of control while thousands of Pierce County residents are unemployed and eager to get back to work with no hope of finding a job. These high paid legislators should all take a pay cut AND have term limits to get the uneffective legislators out of office.
