New Goodwill discount program targets military

October 11, 2010 By Ben Sclair

LAKEWOOD – All military, veterans and dependents receive 10 percent off purchases on Military Discount Day, Wednesdays from all Tacoma Goodwill-operated stores. It started Oct. 6.

“We felt this new effort was the best way to thank our military and their families for their courage in fighting to keep our country safe,” said Terry A. Hayes, president & CEO. “We know in these economic times it can be tough, especially for dependents and veterans. This new discount program should help.”

Goodwill stores feature a Junior Fashions department, new mattresses and other household items. Stores also feature a variety of new and gently used clothes and other items. The offer is valid with military ID, and some restrictions apply. The discount isn’t redeemable for cash and it excludes our Outlet Store.

Hayes noted that Goodwill is a great place to donate when military get reassigned. Donations remain in the communities where items are given. Proceeds from donations and sales at Goodwill stores support the agency’s job training and placement efforts helping people with disabilities or disadvantages go to work.

Tacoma Goodwill operates 26 stores across a 15-county service area that includes all the Olympic Peninsula, except Kitsap County; south to Longview; east to Yakima and Ellensburg; and a portion of South King County, including Kent, Auburn, and Maple Valley. For information on the nearest store location, simply go to www.tacomagoodwill.org and click on “Shop.”
