1. JBLM Mounts Road Gate Opened For Morning Commuters
In an effort to ease morning congestion on northbound Interstate 5 the Mounts Road gate to Joint Base Lewis-McChord opened on Monday, October 4th. The gate is now open on weekday mornings from 5-8 AM to drivers with Defense Department identification cards and base decals only. It is limited to vehicles entering from Nisqually Road, coming northbound from old Pacific Highway SE in Thurston County. Left-turns into the entrance and exiting traffic are prohibited. Preliminary reports show that the usage is higher than anticipated with traffic counts on Monday showing 1,160 cars using the gate and 1,280 on Tuesday. The Federal Highway Administration reported that mainline speeds on northbound I-5 did not drop below 40 mph in the Nisqually corridor.

3. CERT Training Registration

The classes will take place for three weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. A final exercise will be held on Saturday, November 6th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Students will gain hands-on skills such as how to put out small fires, render first aid in a disaster situation, and perform light search and rescue. There is no charge to participate. Citizens who have questions or want to register for the class should call the DuPont Fire Department at 253-964-8414.
