JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – Joint Base Lewis-McChord will formally welcome home the Soldiers of the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division during a Redeployment Ceremony on Thursday, October 7, at 10 a.m. on Watkins Field. The 4th Stryker Brigade (also known as the “Raider” brigade) was deployed from August 2009 to August 2010 to Iraq in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom. During the ceremony the brigade will uncase its colors, signifying the completion of its deployment and its return to Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
This was the 4th Stryker Brigade’s second deployment to Iraq. The brigade deployed in April, 2007, serving 15 months in Diyala Province, before returning to then-Fort Lewis (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord) in September, June 2008.
4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, was the last U.S. brigade in Iraq assigned to conduct combat operations. The unit turned over control of its assigned “battle space” to the Iraqi Army’s 6th Brigade several weeks before U.S. forces officially transitioned from supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom to the new U.S. mission in Iraq, Operation New Dawn.
