Saturday, June 19, Father’s Day Weekend the community is invited to Bridgeport Place for a BBQ and Classic Car Show. Three trophies will be awarded: Best in Show, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place. Owners of Classic Cars who want to compete for one of the trophies pay a $10 entry fee (enter by June 7). Call Activities Director Linda Janicki at 253.565.1960 to register. All money raised from the entries has been pledged to the University Place Senior Community Center. Bridgeport Place continues its strong support for day-to-day operations of the center and its programs for seniors.
Griot’s Garage just opened on South 38th Street, in Tacoma, in the old Coca~Cola bottling plant. When Guy Devivo, Assistant Store Manager, learned of the Classic Car Show at Bridgeport Place, he wanted to help with sponsorship and donated car care kits as prizes. Entry forms are available at Griot’s Garage, too. The Coca~Cola plant was an abandoned eyesore for a long time, but has undergone an amazing transformation into not only a sizzling new retail business, but also a glistening showroom for Classic Cars and Race Cars with a ‘you-can’t-miss-it’ flag plaza out front. The store features everything from storage units for a ‘man cave’ to special shoes for driving race cars. Griot’s Garage slogan is “Car Care for the Perfectionist.” With the announcement that construction will begin on the LeMay Museum, June 10, the timing of Griot’s Garage opening is perfect. http://griotsgarage.com Given their sense of community spirit and support of seniors, they will surely be good neighbors.
