University Place Fire was called as “mutual aid” to assist Lakewood with a large commercial fire on South Tacoma Way on Monday, January 18. Lakewood Fire was dispatched to the large fire that involved three business. As the first arriving Engine company found a lot of fire, they called for more resources. UP Fire sent 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Engine, and the Battalion Chief.
These mutual aid calls for assistance from neighboring departments are vital during large scale events. This allows departments to quickly get needed additional resources providing equipment and fire fighters to mitigate the event and provide safety to citizens and fire personnel.
Several other fire departments were also called to this 10 hour fire, including Tacoma, McChord, and Central Pierce.
