The Tacoma Concert Band Board of Directors has appointed Terry Nelson as Executive Director. Mr. Nelson served for thirty-two years in the United States Air Force, as a command pilot and in additional leadership positions. He received a BA in International Relations from the University of St. Thomas, and an MS in Human Resource Management from Chapman University. Mr. Nelson brings to this position both strong management skills and a passion for supporting and reaffirming the Tacoma Concert Band’s mission of bringing to our community the very finest symphonic band music.
Mr. Nelson succeeds Mark Reutlinger, who served as president of the board from 1997 to 2002, and then as Executive Director until Mr. Nelson’s appointment. Mr. Reutlinger’s skills and contributions have been outstanding and we are pleased that he will continue as the TCB’s grant writer and as a member of the band.
The Tacoma Concert Band’s next performance will be on Saturday, February 20, 2010, 7:30 PM, at the historic Pantages Theater in downtown Tacoma. The concert will feature Alan Baer, principal tuba of the New York Philharmonic, and will include selections from the classics, the Broadway music of Leonard Bernstein, and the score from “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” It will be an evening of music to please all tastes and ages. Students 16 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult. This will be a rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s finest tuba players, in concert with the Northwest’s premier symphonic band.
