Chief of Police Bret Farrar and the Lakewood Police Department are proud to announce that a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will examine all aspects of the Lakewood Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services.
As part of this assessment, all Lakewood citizens, city and agency employees, and any other interested persons are encouraged to offer comments about the department’s services and performance at a public information session on Monday, February 1st at 7 p.m. at the Lakewood Police Headquarters located at 9401 Lakewood Dr SW. Additionally, comments can be phoned in on Sunday, January 31st from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. to 253-830-5085.
Comments can be submitted via mail or telephone to CALEA immediately. Send written comments to: The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215 or call 800-368-3757 or 703-352-4225.
To obtain CALEA accreditation, the Lakewood Police Department must comply with 389 law enforcement standards and demonstrate our compliance to a team of assessors. Though the process is completely voluntary, CALEA Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
After obtaining initial accreditation, the department’s accreditation compliance will be examined by a team of CALEA assessors who are also law enforcement professionals with other CALEA accredited agencies from across the country.
The onsite assessment team will consist of professionals from the Oakland (CA) Housing Authority Police, and the Culpeper, VA Police. A copy of the Lakewood Police Department Manual of Standards is available for review in the Reception area at the Lakewood Police Department. For more information, contact Accreditation Manager Jeff Carroll during regular business hours.
