Forty plus volunteers showed up to help with the U.P. all city curbside food collection this past Saturday outside of the Families Unlimited Network (F.U.N.) food bank. Krispy Kreme donuts and Forza Coffee were waiting for them on this very drizzly morning. People were paired with one person driving and one or more riding to be able get out and pick up the food. Everyone was on the streets by about 10:30 am collecting food. Unfortunately there was not very much to collect, reported Roger Gruener, the organizer of the event. This happened last year, but I thought it was because of the snow and ice on the ground. It was very disappointing and I really felt bad for the Food Bank and the volunteers that came out to help. We have the support to do this, but we just have to do a better job getting the word out just prior to the event. I know people are willing to put food out, if they were reminded. F.U.N did report that we collected approximately 3000 lbs, and every pound of food is a big help. We will do a better job of advertising next year.
