The sounds of holiday music filled the air at Steilacoom’s Town Hall on Dec. 20. Steilacoom residents crowded in to enjoy the Sunday evening sing-a-long that showcased what Mayor Ron Lucas dubbed, the “Steilacoom International Orchestra.”
The holiday program, arranged by resident Nancy Henderson (below playing a tuba), was made up of about 35 area musicians, that included two Chinese exchange students, a few high school teachers, and several SHSD band students.
Between 6 and 8 p.m. Sunday evening, members of the audience added their voices to a medley of seasonal songs, ranging from Deck the Halls to We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Several “jingle bell” type songs were sung by a voluntary children’s chorus.
“None of us have ever rehearsed together before,” confessed Henderson, who arranged the jolly, pre-Christmas gathering. Earlier this month, she distributed flyers inviting community members to take part.
Decorated tables, spread with a tasty assortment of sweet treats and beverages, rounded out an event that included an impromptu chorus of “Happy Birthday” to one of the musicians celebrating his 18th birthday that night.
As someone said, “A good time truly was had by all.”Print This Post
