Twenty-four Clover Park School District teachers and counselors earned their National Board Certification in 2009. To obtain this honor, these educators participated in a rigorous series of performance-based assessments. A portfolio of evidence of student work from their classrooms demonstrating a positive impact on student learning was measured against the nation’s highest professional standards. The certification process can take up to three years and only a small percentage of candidates are successful.
Clover Park School District now has 77 Nationally Board Certified teachers. Overall, 11 percent of all teachers and counselors in the district are National Board Certified.
The district’s newest NBC teachers are Corey Harmon, Carter Lake Elementary School; Anthony Keen, Samantha Pairis and Diane Tollefson; Clover Park High School; Margie Scala, Rhonda Seibert and Nicole Wonner, Custer Elementary School; Cindy Brewer, Mary Jaeger and Linda Muir, Dower Elementary School; Kristen Hulscher, Evergreen Elementary School; Mary Carlisle and Tracy Fortune, Hudtloff Middle School; Todd Pehowski and Scott Waeschle, Lakes High School; Anita Bruscas and Myra Johnson, Lakeview Hope Academy; Lisa Chachere, Kimberly Clark and Terry Riggs, Southgate Elementary School; Kelley Loveland, Tillicum Elementary School and Kalee Alexandria, Jody Fritz and Suzanne Sacrachman, Woodbrook Middle School.
The district offers teachers working towards certification a financial scholarship, three release days and membership in a district-sponsored support group. The Washington State Legislature also funds a $5,000 annual salary bonus for teachers who achieve certification for the life of their certificate. Certified teachers who work in a school with a high number of students receiving free/reduced lunch receive an additional $5,000. Certified teachers are also able to apply graduate credits earned while studying for their boards towards advanced degrees.
Early next year, the newest certified teachers will be honored at a reception at the district’s Student Services Center.Print This Post
