To the City of Lakewood! On behalf of the St. Frances Cabrini School Community, I would like to thank Ken Sharp and the Lakewood Fire Department for allowing our school students, parents and staff to gather at the Steilacoom Blvd Fire Station to say our good-byes and honor our fallen Lakewood Police Heroes. We, like so many other Lakewood citizen’s, honored Sergeant Mark Renninger, Officer Tina Griswold, Officer Ronald Owens, and Officer Greg Richards. What a privilege it was to take part in such a solemn and important tribute to these precious officers. Our Lakewood community came together in all the right ways to make this shocking tragedy into a meaningful & loving response.
Not only did the fire department offer us a space to say our good byes, they also provided cookies, warm beverages, and a space to warm up. What an awesome gift that was and how this gesture of hospitality, along with our whole city’s response has brought our community together in new and profound ways.
To Chief Bret Farrar and all our Lakewood Officers, to Chief Ken Sharp and all our Lakewood firefighters we say thank you and honor you and ask God to bless each one of you as you daily risk your lives to make our Lakewood community safe. We will continue to pray for all of you and all the families of these officers as we try to move on. We echo the words of our Mayor Doug Richardson at yesterday’s memorial, “No higher calling, than to do one’s duty and they served well.”
