The first advisory committee meeting for the Pierce County Rivers Flood Hazard Management Plan will be held on Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pierce County Environmental Services Building, 9850 64th St. W. in University Place. The plan will address flooding and flood hazards on major county rivers. Committee meetings are open to the public.
The committee advises the Public Works and Utilities’ Surface Water Management Division on key elements of the plan, including technical and policy issues, proposed alternatives, plan recommendations and implementation. The meeting will introduce advisory committee members and define the role of the committee and planning process. The committee will meet monthly during 2010.
There will be limited opportunity for public comment at this meeting, but numerous public involvement opportunities such as meetings and workshops are planned for 2010.
The advisory committee is comprised of 26 members representing Pierce County cities, tribes, state and federal agencies, business, agriculture and environmental interests, floodplain residents and citizens.
