Lakewood Rotary teachers and student of the month

Two educators and a student were recognized for their achievements during a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Lakewood.

Jean Vanderscheer, a 12-year-employee of the Steilacoom Historical School District, and Rachel Hyde, a Mann Middle School Counselor for the Clover Park School District, were named Educator of the Month for their respective school districts. Jung Bae was recognized as the outstanding student of the month from the Clover Park District.

IMG_9872Vandersheer (left) is an elementary school para-educator. One of her assignments is to direct Team Chloe which provides opportunities for all students to teach them responsibility and initiative. She also work’s on the school’s master schedule and is a great reading instructor, according to her nomination from Principal Gary Yoho.

IMG_9873Hyde (right) has been at her school for the last nine years and is the school’s sole counselor. According to the nomination letter she is a “constant professional in every aspect of her job and her commitment to helping students attain their academic goal is second to none.”

IMG_9870Bae (left) is a Lakes High School senior who achieved a perfect score on his SAT tests and has a 4.0 GPA at school. He is also extremely active in several student programs in his school, including tutoring fellow students in calculus and other AP courses.

The 120-member Rotary Club of Lakewood regularly recognizes teachers from the Clover Park and Steilacoom Historical School Districts as well as an outstanding student from each of the district.

The club meets each Friday noon at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club. Greg Horn is currently serving as president.
