Clover Park School District’s Tyee Park Elementary School hosted its annual Veterans Day Assembly Nov. 5, under the direction of longtime fine arts teacher Tracey Lundquist. In addition to patriotic songs sung by Tyee Park students, the event featured remarks from Fort Lewis’ Brig. Gen. Jeff Mathis, performances by the Navy Northwest Big Band, remarks from a former Tuskegee Airman and performances by the Lakes High School Studio Choir.
“This show is Tyee Park’s way of thanking our military, both active and retired, for serving our country,” Lundquist. “Many of our veterans do not consider themselves heroes, but in our eyes, they are America’s treasures. We want to honor those individuals who work to preserve our freedom.”
Honored guests included Pearl Harbor survivors, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion halls, Congressional Medal of Honor recipients and city, state and national dignitaries. The event ended with the playing of service songs by the Navy Northwest Big Band with vocals by Tyee Park students.
