City of Lakewood to host Veterans Recognition Event

LAKEWOOD, WA – All military veterans and friends of veterans are invited to attend the City of Lakewood’s 2009 Veterans Recognition Event. It will be conducted at the beginning of the City Council meeting on Monday, November 9th at 7pm at Lakewood City Hall, 6000 Main Street SW.

The program will begin with a song by “Lakewood’s Brightest Star,” Kenneth Heath. Mayor Doug Richardson will present proclamations to service representatives from all branches. Lt. Colonel Danny Dudek of the Warrior Transition Battalion will provide an overview of efforts at Fort Lewis to rehabilitate injured Soldiers and return them to duty. The program will also include a video message from Iraq courtesy of Lakewood’s “Community Connector,” the 4-2 Stryker Brigade commander, Colonel John Norris. A short video saluting veterans will complete the program.

A presentation by the Washington State Department of Transportation on the proposed Point Defiance Bypass Project will immediately follow the Veterans event. This project would bring Amtrak trains through Lakewood.
